La Spezia, Italy (Ports Europe) July 26, 2021 - An agreement has been signed which is a stage in the realisation of the Pnrr (Il Piano nazionale di ripresa e resilienza) and the proposed development of the waterfront. The signatories were Mario Sommariva, Presdient of Autorita’di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Orientale (AdSP - Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority), LSCT (La Spezia Container Terminal) CEO and Alfredo Scalisi and Mayor of the Municipality of La Spezia. According to the agreement, from 1 January 2022, 5,000 m² of Calata Paita will be returned to the city. From 1 September 2022, LSCT will release an additional portion of the area, 1,500 m², allowing the AdSP to start of work on the new triangular pier for the berthing of passenger ships, included in the Pnrr and, therefore, to be completed by the mandatory date of 2026. Another piece will be added in September 2023, when LSCT will return the remaining 41,500 m² to the AdSP to allow the full construction of the waterfront. For its part, the AdSP undertakes to quickly complete the displacement of the Canaletto Marine, to carry out the dredging works to bring the bottoms of part of the access channel and the third basin to 15 meters, according to the forecasts of the PRP. LSCT, for its part, will work on the construction of the quay and the forecourt planned in the Canaletto area, while the planned works on the Molo Garibaldi will be started in a second phase. "With the agreement signed today, on which the parties have been working for some time", said President Sommariva, "we finally reach an important milestone for the relaunch of the operational activities of the most important terminal of our airport, through precise redefinitions of mutual commitments, and for the start of the city waterfront. This will be possible by reviewing the concession granted in 2016 to LSCT, in the light of current market needs and the new recent indications of the PNRR. The initiatives contained in the agreement will start immediately, thanks to a precise time schedule. In two years we will see the first substantial results for the launch of traffic in an environmentally friendly key". "This signature is the result of a fruitful collaboration and constant work, which we have carried out over the past months with the AdSP", says Alfredo Scalisi, CEO of LSCT, "and represents the starting point for the definition of a new geography of the entire port area of the territory. Both parties took the opportunity and got to work, identifying commitments, responsibilities and timelines so that the development plan, and above all the launch of the city's waterfront project, materialize. A program - which requires the maximum commitment of all the actors involved, which will see its completion in line with the provisions of the Pnrr, for a port that is increasingly connected, open and integrated with the urban and city fabric. 50 years of history that have seen LSCT alongside the city and now, with the signed document, the foundations are laid to define new projects that will see us as protagonists in the port system of the future". "Today's is a historical result, the result of a concerted, silent but profitable and constant work, which after 130 years gives back to the city a fundamental part of its seafront, converting it to urban use", declared the Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini.
