Georgia

Georgia in country located in Transcaucasia, bordering on the Black Sea, north of Turkey and Armenia. It regained independence when the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. In August 2008 Russia unilaterally recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia (parts of Georgia), and Russian military forces remain in those regions. The country would like to join the European Union. Its leading ports are Batumi and Poti. Also, the country has made efforts to build a deep sea port at Anaklia, although these efforts are currently stalled.
