Strait of Messina Bridge project
The proposed bridge over the Strait of Messina is an ambitious infrastructure project intended to link the Italian mainland with the island of Sicily. Envisioned as a suspension bridge, it would span approximately 3.3 km, making it one of the longest bridges in the world. The bridge’s design features towers reaching over 200 meters in height to support the central span. If completed, it would significantly reduce travel time between the cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria, facilitating economic development and improving transportation connections in the region.
Concessionaire for the design, construction and management of the road and rail link between Sicily and Calabria, is the Stretto di Messina company. The project is a strategic work of pre-eminent national interest included in the European Union’s infrastructure network.
