Conference issues call for Marseille-Genoa to join Ten-T transport corridor

Marseille, France (PortSEurope) December 17, 2017 - Philippe Tabarot, transport officer at the Paca regional council, Joan Amoros, president of the Ferrmed association, and Christine Cabau-Woehrel, president of the board of directors of the Grand Port Maritime of Marseille, have adopted a joint declaration to include the Marseille-Genoa axis to the North Sea-Mediterranean corridor. The declaration was made at a conference organised by FERRMED, the Grand Port Maritime of Marseille and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region - "Development of infrastructure and rail offers on the North Sea-Mediterranean Corridor ". The conference highlighted the key points of traffic management on this major corridor and proposed ways to facilitate the development of an optimal infrastructure development plan, the optimization of capacities for the best irrigation of the European territory via its various maritime entries, and the deployment of efficient service offers able to support the expected growth of traffic. The conference focussed on axes within the network of European corridors, the stakes that are borne by the port and inland terminals, congestion at the level of urban nodes, goods and passenger traffic, the needs evolution of infrastructure and service offerings and customer expectations. The continental section of the North Sea-Mediterranean Corridor is the central part of the "Great Railway Axis" promoted by FERRMED. This strategic axis links, through its main trunk and its related branches, the North and South maritime fronts, consumption basins and major industrial and logistic zones. Through its Mediterranean connections, it offers a tremendous opportunity to diversify access to Europe, an asset in favor of the rebalancing of networks and the fluidification of transport. After the Marseille-Geneva axis was connected to the North Sea-Mediterranean rail corridor, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Liguria regions are calling for the integration of the Marseilles-Genoa into TEN-T. "Marseille occupies a strategic position at the crossroads of two trans-European networks of North Sea-Mediterranean and Mediterranean transport. Our ambition is to rebalance the trans-European transport networks as part of the revision of routes in 2018.
