Contraband cigarettes seized in Piraeus Container Terminal

Piraeus, Greece (Ports Europe) January 10, 2025 – Yesterday, officers from the Directorate of Narcotics & Smuggling Enforcement of the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Security Office of the Port of Piraeus, in collaboration with Customs Officers from the Piraeus III Customs, seized 9,390,000 contraband cigarettes inside a shipping container at the Piraeus Container Terminal.

Specifically, following an investigation based on information from the Directorate of Narcotics & Smuggling Enforcement, a container arriving from Thailand with a final destination of Bratislava, Slovakia, was detained at the terminal. It contained hidden cargo (trolley suitcases), behind which were 939 cardboard boxes, each containing 469,500 packs of twenty cigarettes.
