Volos, Greece (Ports Europe) December 26, 2024 – A contract has been signed between the government and the Tekal company to dredge the Port of Volos. This has been a requirement since the regional “Daniel” and Elias” storms of September 2023, which resulted in extreme rain flooding local rivers that then washed huge volumes of sediment into the port. This has affected ship movement and the size of ships that can access the port.
A tender process was managed by TAIPED (HDRAF), the state privatisation agency, which resulted in a contract worth 9.5 million euros to Tekal.
The project is financed by the Sectoral Development Program of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, following its inclusion in the Public Investment Program.
