Istanbul, Turkey (PortSEurope) October 5, 2023 – DP World Yarımca is introducing a solution for the maritime transport of cars in containers which aims to improve the supply chain.
Recently, there have been delays at Turkish ports which have affected the delivery of new cars. This has contributed to rising prices in both the new and used vehicle markets.
Usually, cars are imported on Ro-Ro vessels. DP World Yarımca has started to import vehicles in standard containers. The containers can be handled by standard port equipment with no requirement for specialist terminals, port equipment or vessels. Three SUVs can be loaded in a container, not two. Reduced transport costs, importing cars from China, could be passed on to customers.
This means that car transport can benefit from capacity provided by container terminals. DP World Yarımca has an annual handling capacity of 1.15 million containers (TEUs), which will benefit imports for Chery vehicles.
10,000 SUVs will be handled in this way.
