News - Source: Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (Italy) - April 13, 2020 The measures adopted by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport (MIT) to deal with the health emergency from Covid19 and to counter the spread of the disease have been extended until May 3. Minister Paola De Micheli signed, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, the Decree extending the effectiveness of certain measures aimed at severely limiting the mobility of people in Italy and the transport of passengers through the various carriers and shipowners. In the air transport sector, only the minimum essential services are insured and the operation of the services is limited to the airports of Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Lampedusa, Milan Malpensa, Naples Capodichino, Palermo, Pantelleria , Pescara, Pisa, Rome Fiumicino, Turin, Venice Tessera and Rome Ciampino for state flights, organ transports, canadair and emergency services only. At general aviation airports and landing areas, only flights motivated by proven work needs or situations of necessity or carried out for health reasons are allowed. In the railway passenger transport sector, the minimum essential services are guaranteed both for market activities and for those carried out on the basis of long-distance service contracts stipulated by Trenitalia with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, with at least one couple link on each direction. For Intercity services, Trenitalia will be able, in agreement with the supervising administrations, to evaluate further remodeling according to the reduced mobility needs. No restrictions are envisaged for the freight transport service and for emergency services. Even with regard to interregional automotive services, only the minimum essential services are insured. The limitations of the connections with the two main islands, Sicily and Sardinia, have been confirmed through the suspension of the maritime transport of passengers, while the transport of goods continues to be ensured, possibly on unaccompanied isolated cargo units. Sea transfers for passengers from Messina to Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria and vice versa are insured by means of some daily return trips. The air transport of travelers to and from Sicily is insured, only for urgent territorial connection needs with the peninsula, exclusively at the airports of Palermo and Catania through two return flights Rome-Catania and two return flights Rome-Palermo. . The air transport of travelers to and from Sardinia is insured exclusively at the Cagliari airport for demonstrated and invaluable needs, subject to authorization by the President of the Region.
