Gioia Tauro, Italy (Ports Europe) August 26, 2024 – The Medcenter Container Terminal has received 18 hybrid straddle carriers from the Swedish company Kalmar. Powered by diesel and electric, the cranes will contribute towards increasing container handling at the port.
In the first seven months of the year, the terminal handled approximately 2.3 million TEU, an increase of 11.9 % compared to the same period last year.
“The terminal operator MCT is respecting the investment plan presented on the occasion of its inauguration. Today, with the arrival of 18 straddle carriers, which the arrival will soon follow in port of two additional latest-generation gantry cranes, we see the attention that Medcenter Container Terminal has paid and continues to pay to our port materialize, in terms of sustainable development and growth of the port’s volumes”, explains the president of the Adsp Andrea Agostinelli.
