Posted on

Barcelona, Spain (Ports Europe) November 4, 2024 – The effects of the DANA hitting the entire Mediterranean coast this week have reached Catalonia and, specifically, the province of Barcelona. The storm has caused major problems with mobility throughout the region on Monday morning, which are added to the effects that some companies and public bodies are beginning to report.

DANA is a weather phenomenon that causes vast rainfall in a short period, causing over 200 deaths in the Valencia region.

The port has halted activity at the APM Terminals Barcelona due to dangers from high winds. The port’s other container terminal, Hutchison Port BEST (Barcelona Europe South Terminal), was set also to close.

In the same area of the Port of Barcelona, the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona , the entity that manages the industrial estate, has reported that, for now, work is going normally, despite the mobility problems.

Separately, the Port of Tarragona has also suffered some damage due to the DANA in its accesses, and some entrances and exits have been closed since 1100.
