Port of Livorno has signed an agreement with the Tarros group for the development of Terminal del Golfo

La Spezia, Italy (PortSEurope) April 1, 2022 - The Port of Livorno has signed an agreement with the Tarros group for the development of Terminal del Golfo (TdG) and the surrounding area. TdG is considered a strategic asset for the port, both in terms of employment and generating business for port companies and its hinterland. The port is part of Autorita’di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Orientale (AdSP - Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority). According to the agreement, Tarros will acquire a further 10,000 m². Tarros will be able to use the north side quay using the so-called “solettone” as a landing point, located where the Fossamastra marinas now operate. New activities with high added value will also find space here, such as, passenger ferry services and project cargo. TDG SpA will present an update of the business plan. AdSP undertakes to carry out the roofing works of the ENEL diffuser in Fossamastra and to move the marinas still located on site, making it possible to start the conversion of the area. It also undertakes to continue the excavation and reclamation of the seabed, as envisaged by the current Port Regulatory Plan. The AdSP and Tarros also have the objectives of reducing emissions, noise, increasing the buffer zone between the city and port. In particular, Tarros undertakes to participate in the electrification project of port operations according to the Green Port project, as well as to adopt the best practices and the most advanced technologies in order to guarantee the environmental sustainability of the works. Alberto Musso, president of the Tarros Group: “I am happy because together with the ADSP we have shared and built a path that will finally lead us to the construction of the new TDG terminal. The new project will allow the Gulf Terminal to develop traffic, hire new collaborators and create new opportunities for our territory. I thank the President Sommariva who, since the beginning of his mandate, has shown a strong will in wanting to complete the Master Plan of our port". “This agreement strengthens the infrastructure development strategy of the port of La Spezia to achieve which it is necessary to focus on one of its main activities, namely container traffic. A strategy that looks to the future must be based on the strengthening of existing resources - in this case the Tarros Group - which are deeply rooted in the tradition and history of this territory. But a strategy compatible with all the challenges that modernity presents to us must also be geared to change from the energy, intermodal, environmental sustainability and digitalization point of view.
