Vestas Blades Italia awarded concession in Taranto port

Posted on

Taranto, Italy (Ports Europe) September 6, 2024 – Vestas Blades Italia has been awarded a 9-year concession in the Taranto logistics platform (Piastra Portuale di Taranto). The concession is part of the relaunching of the platform.

Vestas was preferred over the Polish company ITPL Logistics. No explicit reason was given. However, Vestas Blades Italia is part of the established Danish company Vestas, a global leader in the production of wind turbines, whilst IPTL is a relatively new firm.

Vestas offers a more likely path to developing a business generating revenue for the port. IPTL offered cargo volumes of around 18,000 TEU from March 2025.

A third applicant for the area, Tecnomec, has an appeal against the concession pending. A ruling is expected soon.
