Venice, Italy (Ports Europe) January 25, 2022 – President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, and Minister Mara Carfagna, Minister for Southern Italy and Territorial Cohesion, signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of Zona Logistica Semplificata (ZLS) Port of Venice-Rodigino.
A ZLS (simplified logistic zone), like a special economic zones (ZES), is a fixed geographic area in which particular concessions and incentives are provided for companies operating in the area. A ZES in Venice would be a great benefit to the port, in attracting associated businesses.
“It is an important step, desired by the territory”, commented Luca Zaia. He added, “with the signing of this protocol, a fundamental operation is carried out which concerns the entire port area of the Venetian and Rovigo areas. I remember once again that the estimates indicated in the Strategic Development Plan speak of a potential increase of 177,000 jobs, an increase in exports of 40% and an 8.4% increase in port traffic with economic investments of €2.4 billion ($2.71 million) over a decade. I hope it can be a good sign that will be picked up by businesses and workers, from all over the territory who should also take advantage of what PNRR is, counting on a leverage effect of all these tools available”.
Ports Europe Note: National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr – Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza)
The agreement provides the commitment by the Minister for Southern Italy and Territorial Cohesion and by the President of the Veneto Region to verify, through their offices, within 90 days from the signing of the protocol, the status of implementation of the procedures and the start-up status of the Port of Venice – Rodigino ZLS within the following 180 days.
